Dr. Michael Reed

Dr. Reed is Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics and former Director of International Programs for Agriculture at the University of Kentucky. Michael holds a Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University (1979); a Doctor Honoris Causa (Honorary Ph.D.) from Bucharest University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (Romania); and an Honorary Ph.D. from the Faculty of Business Administration, Maejo University (Thailand). 

Michael’s principal area of research is international trade in agricultural products, including the effects of macroeconomic policies and exchange rates on U.S. food exports, international commodity price dynamics, consumer demand in various countries, and the effects of competition on world agricultural trade patterns. Dr. Reed has more than forty years working experience on agricultural and rural development programs and projects throughout the world. 

As a Director of International Programs for Agriculture at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Reed worked with numerous universities and international Development Agencies on a large range of agricultural and rural development issues, in a good number of countries of Europe, Asia and Africa, of which, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During his work, Dr. Reed was the mentor of many international students from different countries and varied cultural backgrounds.
