Dr. Ndofunsu Badika

Designation President & CEO Education M.S., M.D., FACP Email

On a recent trip back to his birthplace in a small rural village in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Dr. Badika realized that it was time to start to give back to the country where he was born.

Consequently, Dr. Ndofunsu Badika decided to establish “All Women’s Maternity international Inc.”, to aid in bridging health disparities to girls and women in the DRC by starting a Non-Government profit Organization (NGO) to educate girls and women to become leaders in their communities.

Dr. Badika’s father was a pastor and smallholder’s farmer in the village he pastored, growing crops and raising small animals, which were sold in the local market. Ndofunsu recalls life in the village being very tough, walking long distance to fetch water and helping his father on his smallholdings during vacations.

His father, no stranger to hard work instilled the notion of his work ethics to his entire family, which he received from his parents and from the Belgian Army that he served during World War II.

Ndofunsu’s father had received very little elementary education but realized early on that education was very important and a path to success for his children and emphasized that to them. Ndofunsu was sixth in line of his nine siblings and recalls walking 12 miles to school and 12 miles back home every day as he also knew at early age how important education would be. His father was his hero.

He left his birth country at the age of 19 to pursue higher education in the United States. In 1989, Ndofunsu received a BA from Berea College, Berea, Kentucky; in 1993 he received a master’s degree in chemistry at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He attended St. George University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and worked as Junior Doctor at General Hospital in Grenada. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Maryland General Hospital Baltimore, Maryland, in 2004.

Dr. Ndofunsu Badika has been practicing internal medicine in North Carolina, in the areas which have been determined as underserved areas, for over 19 years and when asked, although he dreamed to become a medical doctor one day, he never thought he could accomplish all he has done in his live thus far. His mission and goal for “All Women’s Maternity International, Inc.”, is To Empower women, teens and young girls, To Equip them to advocate for their health care and reproductive rights and To Educate them.

He also hopes that all young girls and women who receive assistance through “All Women’s Maternity International, Inc.”, will gain education in order to determine and declare their own individual choices and To Effect the right to social change for themselves and other females in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
